Carlos Sobera: “The theater is where you see the most naked, but also with more power, the actor”

Carlos Sobera follow a tight schedule to make it possible for us to see it in various TV shows and also on the theater. In ‘Asesinos todos’ he acts accompanied by Neus Asensi, Elisa Matilla and Ángel Pardo. The interview is carried out by phone while the presenter and actor addresses the press conference of a new edition of ‘La Casa de los Secretos’.

What will audiences see in this comedy, ‘All Murderers’?

It’s a show so people have a great time and have fun. The story that is told, and that serves as an excuse to have a good time, is that of two married couples whose way of life is deeply altered by circumstances and, like many other people, when that happens they morally consider what to do or what not to do so that this is not the case. And in that reflection, they consider the murder of two people who are the ones who stand between them and their life as always.

What does it mean for you to get on stage?

Theater is the medium in which I was born. When I was 18 I would go up on stage, I did not stand in front of a television camera or anything. And for actors, for those of us who love the profession and like to act, theater is the mother of all arts, because in the end it is where you see the most naked but also with more power, the actor and where you can best exercise your profession and have more control of your work. And where you get the most reward too, because the audience’s response is very immediate, very instantaneous and very real and that feeds the actor a lot.

Would you like to do more theater?

I have been combining theater and television for many years, making a physical effort and also sacrificing time to be able to get on stage. And since I started, in 2010 with ‘La guerra de los Rose’, to do it in a more systematic way, I have not left the stage for almost 12 years. Every time I do a show, I am around a year and a half or two years. Neither could I, nor anyone else, spend more time with a function. I am satisfied with the time that I dedicate to the theater and the theater returns it to me in spades.

How many projects do you have in your hands right now?

‘Asesinos todos’, which we will continue at least until the middle of the year, and preparing the next theatrical project, from which I still cannot advance anything, but which is already in the making. And on TV, we premiered this week ‘La Casa de los Secretos’ with strangers, after the VIP version, and we continue with the recordings of ‘First Dates’, which is a boiler that requires a lot of firewood because the program is broadcast every days, including Saturday, and you have to record practically every day. For a guy from Bilbao I think it’s more than enough.

How do you organize to get to everything?

I do like aviation pilots, with very rigorous timing. Fortunately, they do not overlap, prime times are at night; the theater is at night, but usually on tour weekends, and ‘First Dates’ is a program, which oddly enough because it is having dinner, well we record it in the morning and first thing in the afternoon. The spaghetti that the spectator sees that our guests eat at ten o’clock at night, they are really gobbling them up at eleven o’clock in the morning, which we must also add courage …

What are you most comfortable in? On screen he always looks very natural and perhaps that is also a role.

No, I just enjoy doing television and I think it shows. It is probably one of the things that the public values, that in the end I find it very natural or very authentic because I am in my own sauce, I have a good time, I transmit it, I do not pretend … Besides, when you are on TV, I would say that it is impossible to play a role because in the end you end up seeing the cardboard. It’s much better, and I don’t know how to do it any other way, to be yourself. I remember that at the beginning I was very tied to the contest format, but there was a moment in my career that I decided to make a change, grow and get out of my comfort zone. All that started with ‘First Dates’ and I ended up doing reality shows and I feel super comfortable, I enjoy the same.

Has there been a project that you have said no to? Has a limit been set?

It is not so much of limit as of honesty or moment. I remember that they offered me to do ‘Big Brother’ in 2002, when Mercedes Milá left, it was the third edition, I was on Telecinco, and then it didn’t seem like a good vital moment for me, I didn’t feel confident to do it And I remember I said no In your career you sometimes say no, but not because the program seems bad or of poor quality, but because of how you feel at all times.
