The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will be absent from the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix, which is held at the Jeddah circuit, suffering from appendicitis, the Italian team reported this morning in a statement.
Sainz, who will have to undergo surgery, according to Ferrari, will be replaced from the third practice session, which takes place today, and the rest of the Grand Prix by the reserve driver, the British Oliver Bearman.
“The Ferrari family wishes Carlos a speedy recovery,” concludes the message from the ‘Scuderia’ regarding the Madrid native, who was third in the first race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, and who on the training day of the Thursday he took to the track with a fever, despite which he was sixth and seventh in the two sessions.
“It has been a difficult day for me since I have not fully recovered from the illness that has kept me in bed for the past 24 hours; and I still feel very weak,” Sainz had said on Thursday.
“In any case, I was able to go out on the track and optimized all my time in the car and with the team,” he added.
Carlos Sainz had finished on the podium in Bahrain and with a notable evolution in his Ferrari, compared to his teammate Charles Leclerc.
