Carlos Sainz Jr. “Ferrari’s F1 throne needs a Red Bull failure”[F1-Gate.com]

Carlos Sainz Jr. admits Ferrari may have to rely on reliability issues with Red Bull’s F1 car to challenge for the F1 crown in 2022.

Ferrari’s championship hopes have faded in the last few races before the summer break, with Red Bull leading both the drivers’ and constructors’ tables by a wide margin.

Red Bull has won the last two Grands Prix and Ferrari has endured difficult events. Charles Leclerc was robbed of the lead in France by an engine failure and fell back in Hungary from the front after a failed Ferrari strategy.

Reliability issues plagued Red Bull at the start of the 2022 season, but have not suffered much in recent times.

Carlos Sainz Jr. insists Ferrari won’t give up the F1 title until it becomes mathematically impossible, but says it may need help from Red Bull to achieve it.

“I think it’s clear what Ferrari needs to do is win the races Max wants to win,” Sainz said.

“Obviously, getting 25 points makes a big difference in the points swing. I think there’s still a lot that can happen at the front.”

“It’s always been a great fight between the two teams and I think it will continue until the end of the year.”

“It’s true that at some point you might need Red Bull’s help in terms of reliability and DNF, but even without that, if you’re statistically open, you can’t give up.”

“I think that’s the number one rule of sport. You have to keep believing until it’s impossible, keep trying to win everything you can, keep yourself in the fight.”

“Until the stats are no longer in our control. Until then, keep trying, keep growing as a team, keep improving. What we learned this year could help us in the years to come.”

Ferrari are now 97 points behind leaders Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship and Max Verstappen leads Charles Leclerc in the drivers’ standings by 80 points.
