RACER Carlos Sainz has officially joined the Williams team for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
“I am very pleased to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards,” said Sainz, quoted from the official Formula 1 website, Monday (29/7).
The 29-year-old will race alongside Alexander Albon for Williams until at least the 2026 season.
Previously, Sainz had to lose his place at Ferrari after seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton decided to leave Mercedes and join the prancing horse team next year.
Sainz said his choice fell on Williams because of the team’s great history. However, he did not deny that he needed a long time to make a final decision regarding his future in the premier class of motor racing.
“It’s no secret that the driver market this year is very complex for many reasons and it took me some time to announce my decision,” said Sainz.

“However, I am fully convinced that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey, and I am extremely proud to join such a historic and successful team, where many of my childhood heroes have raced in the past and left their mark on the sport,” he added.
The Spaniard said he aims to bring Williams back to being as competitive as they were in their glory days.
“I am convinced that this team has all the right ingredients to make history again. And, starting January 1 (2025), I will give my best to take Williams forward with every member of the team,” Sainz stressed.

Williams Team Director James Vowles said Sainz’s presence in the team would add a unique color to next season’s competition.
He believes that Sainz has shown his ability as one of the fastest and most talented drivers on the grid this year.
“With Alex and Carlos, we will have one of the strongest driver line-ups on the grid and with a wealth of experience to guide us into the new regulations in 2026,” Vowles concluded. (Ant/Z-1)
