Carlos Ramón González, head of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (Dapre), has just named the wife of one of the senators of the Green Alliance, most critical of Gustavo Petro’s Government.

The wife of Ariel Ávila, senator of the Green Alliance, who has been critical of the government’s policies, especially on issues of public order and controversial projects that will now pass through the Senate.

The arrival of the senator’s wife unleashed questions regarding the role that Ávila will play with an alleged quota in the high government, appointed because one of the presidents of his community, Carlos Ramón González, was.

In some sectors they have seen the appointment as a rapprochement of the Government with a critical senator and with a community that is divided in its support for the current administration.

EL TIEMPO contacted Senator Ávila and asked him if it can be considered that his wife’s appointment is a quota assigned to him by the government and if he is going to silence him regarding the projects that will be discussed in the Senate – such as the health- and public order problems.

“She has more political contacts than me. In fact, I knew that this moment was going to come because she had already rejected two proposals to become the Government,” said Ávila.

And he added: “His arrival will not silence my criticism. Maybe they won’t believe me, but that will be reflected in the following months.”

Ávila added that the connection with a relevant senator cannot be hidden and that the Government is calling qualified people from all over, experts in execution, a field in which his wife has worked.
