Several journalists and friends of Omobono expressed their grief on social media over his passing.

May God grant eternal rest to the funny and caustic Carlos Omobono who through various media (…) made us happy and entertained us with his sharp tongue full of humor and mordacity. A long illness overcame his resistance in his beloved Italy,” said journalist Nelson Bocaranda.

He also said that Omobono was an example of perseverance and commitment to his listeners. Bocaranda sent condolences to his family, especially to the Rodríguez Miranda siblings, Martha and Rodolfo.

“It is regrettable to hear the news of the death in Italy of Venezuelan journalist, writer and presenter Carlos Omobono. A hug to his family and friends,” said journalist Roberto Rodríguez.

Sports journalist Vito Martínez also sent his condolences to Omobono’s family and friends following learning of his death.

Omobono’s health status

Venezuelan singer Lila Morillo reported in February 2023 on her Instagram account that announcer Carlos Omobono was in poor health, which is why she asked for prayers for his speedy recovery.

On March 26, 2023, Eduardo Rafael Martinez, correspondent in Italy for the magazine Zetaalso notified through his account on X that the journalist Carlos Omobono was hospitalized, for which he asked for a prayer on his behalf.

“Friend Carlos Omobono is hospitalized in a critical care unit in Italy. Since October 2022 he has been under the care of doctors and nurses. The prognosis is not good at all. Let us pray that God in his wise understanding will help him,” reads the tweet.

However, it is not yet known whether he suffered from any illness.

Carlos Omobono’s career

Carlos Omobono worked for several newspapers and radio stations in Venezuela and was a presenter for the television channel Televen in the 1990s. His program You and me with Carlos Omobonoin which he spoke to the interviewee sitting in a particular chair on Sunday nights, captivated millions of Venezuelans.

In the FM Center circuit, he started on the program First in Star and then on RQ 910 AM. “Between You and Me with Carlos Omobono It was a unique experience for a dedicated audience,” the radio channel on X noted.

“I have been living in Italy for nine years following being expelled from my beloved homeland,” he said.

Omobono has not returned to Venezuela since Nicolás Maduro, who succeeded Hugo Chávez in 2013, came to power. According to the news portal, the journalist was working in Milan and continued to make his voice heard.

“The voice, if it is sincere, must always be heard. The voice that speaks of freedom always finds an echo and those who are willing to listen to it. And so my voice reaches out to all free minds who can listen to me,” said Omobono.
