Carlos Milano: “We couldn’t close it at home and we have to congratulate Leones” (+Photos)

Universidad de Concepción (UDEC) was unable to secure its fourth championship after being defeated in the semi-finals by Leones de Quilpué, but Carlos “Hallaca” Milano (Miranda, 1985) prefers to stick with what they did achieve: two titles.

El Campanil won the Copa Chile and the Super Cup, the other two titles that were up for grabs this season in the Chilean National Basketball League (LNB Chile).

“The balance for the team, in my opinion, is super positive. We won the Copa Chile and the Super Cup, we had another experience in the Champions League of America, playing against the most important teams on the continent, and we reached the semifinals of the National League,” reflects the native of Curiepe, taking advantage of the end of the season and the winter break to relax. “On a personal level it was hard because injuries kept me out for a good part of the season, but the best is what is to come.”

A leg tear prevented Milano from playing in the finals of the Copa Chile and the Super Cup, but with nine titles with the Concepción quintet he remains the Venezuelan with the most titles in foreign professional basketball.

The intention

“I always try to help the team, but I confess that these things, having to face big teams from Brazil and Argentina, fulfill me a lot as a player.”

-What did they lack to reach the final?
-The key was that we couldn’t close it out at home in the fourth game (they lost 66-64 to Leones, despite Milano’s 19 points, 8 rebounds and assists). In that game we weren’t accurate in some shots and we missed out on some small things. The credit goes to Leones, who defended better than us in the last two games and we have to congratulate them.

-In that penultimate match, Sergio Mijares, also from Barlovento, was the Most Valuable Player.
-I congratulated him! I am very happy with everything Sergio has done this season. I have known him since he was a child in our town. I was sure that he would stand out as soon as he was given the opportunity. I am very honoured to have faced him, that he is doing well and it is special to face him because we are both from Barlovento.

-What does the immediate future hold for Carlos Milano?
-Fortunately I finished the season in very good physical condition and after being sidelined for so long due to injuries, it is satisfying. I am going to try to resume my career (Pedagogy in Physical Education) and hopefully I can get some opportunity to play in the playoffs in the Superliga (SPB) of Venezuela.
