Anxiety and eating disorders

Eating disorders (TCA) are psychological conditions that lead to alterations in the relationship with food. Among the best-known eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Additionally, in the sixth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) it was specified that there are subtypes of eating disorders whose diagnosis is not so easy, which is why they are known as unidentified eating disorders.

These can include any behavior or habit that puts a person’s present and future relationship with food at risk. This includes eating cravings, which is feeling the ‘need’ to constantly be eating food even when there is no appetite.

Additionally, an article from Clinical Psychology Review says that at least two-thirds of those who have an eating disorder also have anxiety symptoms. In fact, anxiety has been linked to the onset of all of these disorders; In other words, anxiety is closely related to people’s eating habits.
