Misuse of corporate assets, money laundering, and corruption
If, since his incredible escape in 2019 while he was imprisoned in Japan, the former boss of the Alliance Renault– Nissan – Mitsubishi, is still a refugee in Lebanon, the French justice does not forget it. An international arrest warrant as part of an investigation into misuse of corporate assets, money laundering and corruption, has just been issued against him. At the heart of the case, an amount of 15 million euros in suspicious payments between Renault-Nissan and the company Suhail Bahwan Automobiles (SBA), its Oman distributor.

The Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian refugee Beirut has always contested the accusations of financial embezzlement for which he should be tried in Tokyo. Similarly, he and his lawyer Jean Tamaletof cabinet King and Spalding, deny the facts alleged by France. The latter judges even this arrest warrant “very surprising”… “The investigating judge and the Nanterre prosecutor know perfectly well that Carlos Ghosn, who has always cooperated with justice, is subject to a judicial ban on leaving Lebanese territory”, he explains. The arrest warrant should, in theory, make it possible to present – finally – Carlos Ghosn to an examining magistrate. But there is no extradition agreement between France and Lebanon, and it is unlikely that the businessman will appear before the French magistrates on his own…
