CARLOS Alcaraz started his performance at the Paris Masters by taking revenge by beating Nicolas Jarry 7-5, 6-1.

The second seed from Spain, who lost to his opponent from Chile in the Buenos Aires semifinals last February, showed off his class when returning the ball by converting 80% (4/5) of break points.

“I thought I played very good tennis (in the first set), but in the end it was complicated,” said Alcaraz, who improved his win-loss record in ATP Masters 1000 events this season to 16-4, quoted from ATP, Wednesday (30/ 10).

“I was very happy to get through the opening set, it was very important for me to go into the second set with more confidence. I (needed) time to get used to the speed of the court.”

“It’s been two years since I won the match at Paris-Bercy, so every time I continue to progress is a reward for me,” continued
the Spaniard.

As he continues his bid to win five or more ATP Tour titles for a third consecutive season, Alcaraz will face either host Ugo Humbert or qualifier Marcos Giron for a place in the quarter-finals.

Alcaraz wasted no time in taking the lead, racking up five points in a row to break Jarry’s serve in the second game.

The 21-year-old tennis player was hampered when serving to end the set at 5-4, but managed to recover to close the opening set.

Jarry applied pressure on his returns throughout the second set, where he had four break chances, according to ATP statistics.

However, Alcaraz showed resilience to stand firm and cruise to victory over the course of an hour, 30 minutes, improving to 3-1 in their head to head. (Ant/Z-1)
