Carla Vizzotti ruled out new closures, despite the rise in coronavirus cases

With the rise in Covid-19 infections in the last weeks, Health Minister Carla Vizzotti said that Argentina entered the fourth wave of coronavirus, but ruled out that new restrictions will be applied or lockdowns thanks to high levels of vaccination.

“No possibility of new closures”he indicated in dialogue with Radio 10 and stated: “This virus cannot be eliminated, much less eradicated, because the disease does not give us immunity for life and the vaccine requires reinforcements”.

In addition, he stated: “There is no chance that there is no Covid-19especially with these new variants that have greater transmissibility.

The head of the health portfolio highlighted the high levels of vaccination in society, which mean that we should not return to situations of strict quarantine.

“The strategy of most countries in the world -among them Argentina- it is to vaccinate so that there are no hospitalizations and deaths, in addition to maintaining care, but not going back to confinement”, he expressed.

In that sense, Vizzotti added: “We are sure that have strengthened the health system and having vaccinated we have no risks [de saturación] in attention”.

In the last three weeks there was an increase in cases that worries and from the Ministry of Health they relate it to the arrival of the winter season, since they begin activities indoors that increase exposure and the risk of contagion.

For this reason, the minister urged citizens to continue applying the reinforcements: “In Argentina there are 3 million people over 50 years of age who have not yet been vaccinated with the third dose. Cases are going to increase and we have to stimulate vaccination so that there are no more deaths”.

Vizzotti also referred to the reproaches regarding the management of the pandemic and the serious economic consequences: “We live the worst humanitarian crisis of the century and the confinements responded to a global Covid-19 strategy.”

“After watching the global moviewe have to put ourselves in the situation of Argentina, with an economic crisis that was before the pandemic. The measures were to strengthen the health system and it was done in record time”, he explained.
