Carl Weathers’ death – Dolph and Stallone on the grief

Carl Weathers played the character Apollo Creed in the first four “Rocky” films. He was also in “The Predator”, “Happy Gilmore” and more recently in “The Mandalorian”.

He died on Thursday, aged 76. His family announced this in a statement, according to Deadline.

“He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1, 2024… Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible legacy and is recognized worldwide across all generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend”writes the family.

Stallone: ​​”A terrible loss”

Sylvester Stallone, who played the main role in the “Rocky” films, pays tribute to Carl Weathers Instagram.

“We lost a legendary today. My life changed forever for the better the day I first met Carl Weathers. Rest in peace and keep swinging”writes Stallone.

Stallone says in a video that it is an “incredibly sad day” for him.

– Carl Weathers was absolutely brilliant. His voice, size, power and physical ability – and most importantly, his heart and soul. It’s a terrible loss, says Stallone.

Dolph: “I’ll miss Carl”

Dolph Lundgren played opposite Weathers in “Rocky IV”. The Swede portrayed the Russian boxer Ivan Drago who mutters “you will lose” to Apollo Creed before their fateful match.

“I was saddened to hear the news this morning. I will miss Carl”writes Lundgren on Instagram.

The Swede calls Weathers “a skilled actor and a good friend”.

“I have many fond memories of Carl from both professional and private life. Like Apollo Creed, he had that special charm that always made you smile”writes Lundgren.
