Caritas of Maturín sent donations for those affected by the rains in Cumanacoa

The Caritas branch in the Diocese of Maturín, Monagas state, sent more than 2 thousand kilos of donations to help those affected by the rains and the flooding of the Manzanares River in Cumanacoa, Sucre state.

The aid shipments left Monagas on Tuesday, July 9, accompanied by Father Manuel Gerónimo Sifontes, director of Caritas in Maturín. The organization told Radio Fe y Alegría that they collected donations in the municipalities of the city and in the communities of Libertador and Caripe in Monagas.

Among the donations collected are non-perishable food, clothing, footwear, sheets, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items.

Donation details

Caritas representatives explained that around 1,630 kilos of this aid corresponds only to food. They also estimate that there are a little more than 500 kilos of women’s clothing and almost 200 kilos of children’s clothing.

The volunteers managed to collect approximately 1,100 liters of bottled water and put together 51 kits for children with diapers, food and clothing; as well as 20 cleaning kits for adults with soap, sanitary napkins and toilet paper.

So far, the government of Nicolás Maduro has confirmed six deaths due to the rains and the flooding of the Manzanares River, while more than 8,000 homes are estimated to have been affected by this situation.

The communities of La Fragua and Las Trincheras in Cumanacoa were submerged in mud following the Manzanares River overflowed, leaving families living there homeless.

They offer services free to those affected in Cumanacoa

Following the overflow of the Manzanares River in Cumanacoa on July 2, several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and companies have activated free services for the inhabitants who were affected.

Several NGOs offer free psychological first aid. This initiative is from the Center for Popular Action (CESAP), Psychologists Without Borders Venezuela and the National Humanitarian Action Platform.

Customer service is available through the number 0412-9270304 during the following times:

-Monday and Tuesday: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

-Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

In the telecommunications sector, the state-owned company CANTV announced that it will provide its services free of charge to the population of Cumanacoa for two months.

Movistar also announced that it has made free recharges of one month’s rent available to its users in Cumanacoa so that they can send text messages and make calls.
