Caribes Unveils Four New International Pitching Talents

The 2024/2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) is just around the corner and the eight teams in the tournament are already beginning to define issues such as imports.

In this regard, Caribes de Anzoátegui announced this Thursday the hiring of four foreign pitchers who will come to reinforce the pitching staff of La Tribu, which at least last season looked quite battered.

Cubans José Ramón Rodríguez and Richard Guasch; Dominican Deyni Olivero and Canadian of Panamanian origin Miguel Cienfuegos join Brazilian Leonardo Reginatto as the foreigners that will be in the Anzoátegui squad, at least in the first few weeks.

According to a press release shared by the press department of the aborigines, Rodríguez is considered one of the elite arms that make life in the Cuban National Series. There he has accumulated 11 seasons of experience, with a record of 43 wins and 37 losses, as well as a 3.90 ERA in 147 games.

In total, he has 97 starts with 641.0 innings of work. The 32-year-old right-hander comes from pitching in the Major League with Samanes de Aragua, where he left a record of 4-3 with a 3.70 ERA in nine appearances (eight of them were starts). He totaled 48.2 innings of work, struck out 32 and finished with a Whip of 1.48.

They also indicated that Olivero is a 26-year-old right-hander who comes from working in the American Association with Gary where he left a record of 0-1 with a 3.57 ERA in three appearances (two as a starter). He was then with Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), where he reflected a record of 2-7 with a 4.99 ERA in nine starts.

The Santo Domingo native has seven years of experience in the minor leagues, all with Arizona, totaling 100 appearances, 87 starts and a record of 32-26 with a 4.88 ERA.

They detailed that Cienfuegos is a left-handed pitcher who belongs to the San Diego Padres organization and comes from pitching in the Class A, Double A and Triple A branches. In 24 appearances (17 as a starter) he is 7-7 with a 4.97 ERA. He also has 112.1 innings of work, 77 strikeouts and 1.33 whip.

Richard Guasch is here to reinforce the relief corps and is currently pitching with the Harrisburg Senators, the Double A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

In 2024, between Class A and Double A branches, he has a record of 4-4 with a 2.96 ERA. The 26-year-old right-hander has 24 relief appearances, 27.1 innings of work and accumulated 40 strikeouts with a whip of .1.31.

With these four arms, Caribes already has five imported, so there would only be one quota left to complete the maximum of six that the LVBP board of directors established for this harvest.
