Caribes de Anzoátegui lost on Saturday in its premiere of the 2024-2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP), after falling 8-1 to Tigres de Aragua.

The Eastern Tribe stumbled at the José Përez Colmenares stadium in Maracay, where the victory was credited to pitcher Christian Suárez (1-0), while the setback was suffered by his counterpart José Rodríguez (0-1).

Aragua showed off a good offense from the start of the match, scoring two runs in the first inning. He completed his production with two lines in the second chapter, one in the third, one in the fifth and two in the eighth. Anzoátegui was only able to step on the rubber once in the fifth inning.

Outstanding

For the cats, shortstop Keiber Rodríguez and designated hitter José “Cafecito” Martínez stood out, who hit home runs in the Ciudad Jardín de Venezuela arena.

Rodríguez hit a two-line drive in the first act, while Martínez deposited the ball in the stands in the fifth section, when there were no runners on the paths. The former went 1 for 5 with one run and two RBIs, while the latter went 3 for 5 with one run and two RBIs.

It is worth noting that Martínez, Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the previous tournament, was one triple away from connecting the ladder in the knockout round clash.

Bengali center fielder Lorenzo Cedrola also stood out by going 3 for 5 with two crosses by the pentagon and an RBI.

This Sunday, Caribes will meet Leones del Caracas in the Monumental Park of Caracas-Simón Bolívar, where on Saturday the long-haired team got off to a “good start” with their performance in this contest, because they overwhelmed Águilas del Zulia 11-4.
