The commissioner of Professional Baseball of the Caribbean, Juan Francisco Puello Herrera, confirmed that the second edition of the Caribbean Kids Series will be held in Venezuela in 2025. While in 2026 the tournament will be held in Curacao.
This competition is organized by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), together with the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) and the Curaçao Baseball Federation.
“We are sure that it will be an unforgettable experience for all participating countries and a significant step for the development of children’s baseball in our region,” Puello said in a statement published in the web of the LVBP on July 16.
According to the CBPC statement, the Commission for Minor Categories is working on the format and regulations to define the dates and number of teams that will participate and to be able to present them at the next assembly of the confederation.
Venezuela’s announcement
On June 27, Giuseppe Palmisano, president of the LVBP, assured in a press conference that they had reached the votes for Venezuela to host the second edition of this tournament.
“We were able to apply and get the votes to host the Kids Caribbean Series in Venezuela in 2025. We are very excited to host the second edition and for the support of the entire Assembly,” he said.
The tournament
The Caribbean Kids Series is an initiative of Futuros Grandes, a social responsibility program of the CBPC that aims to promote education, sports and effort among children and adolescents.
“This program promotes essential values not only for those who dream of becoming great baseball figures, but also for those who aspire to succeed in their lives, regardless of whether or not they end up being signed by professional baseball organizations,” the letter reads.
The first season of the Kids Caribbean Series took place between March 25 and 30, 2024 at the Juan Demóstenes Arosemena stadium in Panama.
The teams, made up of boys and girls between 11 and 12 years of age, who participated were from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico and Nicaragua.
On this occasion, the Dominican Republic won the final of the tournament with a score of 12-10 once morest the Venezuelan team.
After the final, several players from both teams were recognized for their performance during the tournament.
In the case of Venezuela, the standouts were Juan Andrés Guerrero, as batting champion, and José Ignacio Pérez as the best pitcher.
