“This is a Boeing 757 freighter. This aircraft reported hydraulic problems at the time of landing, once it touches the runway it slides towards the southern sector, falling into a hollow that is right in front of the Fire Station in this place, “the Fire Department reported.
This rescue institution details that the firefighters responded quickly and managed to get the two pilots who were on the aircraft out. Both crew members are not seriously injured.
Rescuers proceeded to apply foam in anticipation of any fuel spill. Although, Firefighters indicated that they were able to verify that the tanks are intact, following an assessment.
Due to the accident, the airport was closed and flights are being diverted.
The aircraft, DHL Aero Expreso flight D07216/JOS7216, had left the Juan Santamaría airport bound for Guatemala City; however, en route he declared an emergency and requested to return to the aerodrome from which he had left, prior to carrying out a holding pattern to burn fuel.
