PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) collaborates with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN) to transport liquid bitumen or asphalt cargo as part of cargo diversification. Bitumen is a hydrocarbon material that has adhesive properties, is black, waterproof, and viscoelastic (withstands shear flow and stretches linearly).
Director of Gas, Petrochemical, & New Business PIS Arief Sukmara, in his statement in Jakarta, said that this collaboration further strengthens the synergy of business development in the Pertamina Group. “Asphalt is a vital material for the construction and maintenance of racing circuits and roads.”
PIS successfully carried out the initial transportation of 3,000 metric tons of bitumen. The success of transporting bitumen on international routes proves that PIS is competitive in the petrochemical cargo market, as well as adding to the corporate portfolio in this type of cargo.
“In this collaboration scheme, PIS has proven its readiness to develop business through cargo diversification, especially in the petrochemical sector. PPN’s trust in us to transport bitumen cargo makes us a trusted strategic shipping partner,” said Arief.
Pertamina Patra Niaga Marketing Director Maya Kusmaya emphasized the importance of this collaboration to fulfill bitumen needs in Indonesia. This is a form of his party’s commitment to developing a portfolio of petrochemical and chemical business products.
Previously, PIS made the first shipment of caustic soda petrochemical cargo with a commitment of 96,000 tons from China to Indonesia for non-captive or external consumers of the Pertamina Group. In the future, the holding company Sub Holding Integrated Marine Logistics (SH IML) PT Pertamina will continue to explore the potential for transporting dry bulk commodities to encourage expansion and diversification of the company’s business.
