It is becoming more and more common that young people between 30 and 50 years of age have cardiovascular disease, a reason that leads the specialists of the Cardiology Teaching Center of Maracay to raise awareness among the population in the World Heart Day.

José Ángel García, the general director of this institution, highlighted that the cause of death from heart disease is the most frequent in the world. He highlighted that following COVID-19, it is the one that takes the most lives. “They are already being noticed even more in young patients where the rates increase.”

Sánchez specified that if people might have education on prevention and promotion of cardiovascular health, many diseases might be prevented.

“Promoting from schools would reduce the percentage of cardiovascular complications, such as avoiding the consumption of alcohol, sugar, smoking and fat, to name a few of the risk factors.”

He stressed that around 60 people with different pathologies are treated daily in the health facility, while the emergency room has more than 80 beds for patient service. So far this year they have donated materials for 180 catheterizations.

According to Sánchez, they not only receive people from Aragua, but also from Guárico, Miranda, Apure and Carabobo, for whom they hold a special day of attention on Wednesdays.

“We hold specific sessions with the most needy communities in faraway places and that Corposalud has been able to articulate in order to bring them to the institution.”

GENERAL ATTENTION

Among the specialties currently carried out by the Cardiology Department, García stated that there is hospitalization, emergency room, radiology, outpatient consultation, echo, cardiography, nutrition and general medicine. “We are working to reactivate the hemodynamics unit in the coming months and intensive care.”

The hours are usually from 7:00 in the morning, however, since it is a patient care center, the attention is permanent.
