Breaking News in Cardiology: Andria’s Heart Beats Stronger!

Ladies and gentlemen, grab your stethoscopes and prepare for a heartwarming scoop! The “Lorenzo Bonomo” Hospital in Ascoli has just announced a groundbreaking innovation in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Yes, you heard me right—move over, old techniques; we’ve got some fresh methods coming in November courtesy of none other than Dr. Francesco Bartolomucci, our cardiology dynamo!

At the Heart of Innovation

Let’s give a cheer for Dr. Bartolomucci and the team at Bonomo, who have established themselves as a top-tier cardiology facility in Puglia. The clinic is already the first center in the region to provide treatment for patent foramen ovale (PFO)—otherwise known as “that pesky little hole in your heart.” Who knew hearts could multitask this way?

The Atrial Fibrillation Game-Changer

This time, they’re strapping on their superhero capes to tackle atrial fibrillation with a new technique called electroporesis. Yes, I know it sounds like a fancy dinner at a molecular restaurant, but it’s far more exciting! This method promises to zap away the heart’s electrical mischief-making with minimal fuss.

Three’s Company: A Triumvirate of Excellence

Working in concert with two other leading hospitals, the Policlinico di Bari and Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce, Bonomo has positioned itself at the core of treating non-valvular structural heart diseases. So, if you have a heart problem, rest assured—these hospitals have got your back… and your heart. No pressure, right?

Pioneering Procedures and Future Focus

As if that weren’t enough, Bonomo is also the only public center in Puglia looking to integrate atrial fibrillation ablation starting this November. Trust me, if your heart is going to misbehave, it’s best to have the best in the biz handling it!

The recent success of the innovative Carillon Mitral Contour system implantation in an 80-year-old patient is another feather in Bonomo’s cap. This procedure reduces mitral dilation and regurgitation. Essentially, it’s like giving the heart a little training montage, Rocky-style, but without the sweatbands.

Conquerors of Cardiovascular Woes!

With cardiovascular disease leading as one of the main causes of premature death in Europe, advancements like these are essential. Dr. Bartolomucci pointed out the need for effective treatments for conditions like atrial fibrillation, which might sound innocuous but can cause serious complications like strokes.

Conclusion: A Beat Above the Rest

So there you have it—a heartwarming transformation underway at the “Lorenzo Bonomo” Hospital! With innovations like electroporesis and the Carillon Mitral Contour system, Andria is putting itself firmly on the map as a hub of cardiac excellence. Here’s hoping these advancements lead to longer, healthier lives. Remember, a heart that’s cared for is a happy heart!

Now, who’s ready for a check-up—before or after that third slice of cake?

Important news in the cardiology field for the “Lorenzo Bonomo” hospital in Andria: an innovative method for the treatment of atrial fibrillation will be undertaken in November. They are provided by Dr. Francesco Bartolomucci, Director of the Cardiology Department of the ASL Bt. “For patent foramen ovale (PFO), the Bonomo di Andria is among the public facilities in Puglia with the highest number of treatments. Furthermore, together with the Policlinico di Bari and the Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce is authorized by the Region to perform left atrial closure operations in patients with atrial fibrillation who are unable to take anticoagulant therapy. And “electroporesis”, an innovative method for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, will soon be undertaken. .

The evolution of medicine applied to the heart. And from the heart of BAT, in Andria, the HUB Cardiology Complex Operational Unit with UTIC, directed by Dr. Francesco Bartolomucci, at the “Lorenzo Bonomo” Hospital“ stands out among the most specialized public structures in Puglia.
“It is the first center in Puglia for closing the patent foramen ovale or the so-called hole in the heart, a frequent condition in adulthood and where the finding is often occasional. “However – explains Dr Bartolomucci – in a small number of patients it is possible to develop paradoxical embolism phenomena with consequent symptomatic cerebral ischemic events”.
Furthermore, And between the three regional public structures, together with the Bari Polyclinic and the Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce, to take care oftreatment of non-valvular structural heart disease such as closure of the left atrial appendage.
And always Bonomo is the only public center in Puglia where the ablation of atrial fibrillation will begin to be developed from November using a new technique, namely electroporesis.
It is also among the high-volume centers for cardiostimulation, i.e. the implantation of pacemakers, and is among the first to have implanted wireless dual-chamber pacemakers. These are two pacemakers without leads that communicate and synchronize with each other with every single heartbeat thanks to implant-to-implant communication technology.

But that’s not all. The first implantation of the system was carried out in the Cardiology department of Andria in recent daysCarillon Mitral Contour. “This percutaneous procedure – added Dr. Bartolumucci – is capable of remodeling the mitral annulus by reducing mitral dilation and regurgitation, and is therefore indicated in patients with functional mitral regurgitation who are refractory to medical therapy and are not candidates for cardiac surgery. The device was implanted in an 80-year-old patient with severe mitral regurgitation.”
The goal is to improve patients’ quality of life and, consequently, reduce hospitalizations. Given that cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of premature death in Europe and contribute to the continuous increase in healthcare costs.
“There are pathologies that lower the quality of life, such as atrial fibrillation, the most frequent cardiac arrhythmia in the general population, associated with the risk of cerebral stroke – specifies Bartolomucci – due to the formation of thrombi that form inside the heart and particularly in the left auricle. In order to avoid this eventuality, the patient must take anticoagulant therapy which, as countless studies have shown, significantly reduces the risk of acute cerebral events in patients who, for various reasons, cannot take it anticoagulant therapy or are at high risk of bleeding, you needpercutaneous closure surgery of the left atrial appendagea procedure which today represents a valid therapeutic option in these subjects”.

These goals and other scientific topics will be discussed during “CardioBat2024″which will be heldFriday 25 and Saturday 26 October in Trani at Palazzo San Giorgio.Promoted and organized by the Department of Cardiology of ASL BAT, directed by Dr. FrancescoBartolomucciwith the collaboration of the Organizational SecretariatIntermeeting Sud(info 080.5482005) and the patronage of Anmco, SIC and Gise .
The main topics of modern cardiology will be addressed with the leading experts at national level.Friday 25 Octoberthe prof. Gianluca Campofull professor of cardiology at the University of Ferrara, together with Dr. Bartolomucci will be the protagonist of a masterful reading. While, the profPasquale Perrone Filardiprofessor of the Federico II University of Naples as well as president of the Italian Society of Cardiology, will moderate the session on “ dyslipidemia and heart“. Ample space will be given to the treatment of mitral disease and the first case performed at the cardiology of Andria will be presentedthe system installation Carillon Mitral Contour with the intervention from Poland by Prof. Tomasz Siminiak, one of the world’s leading experts in the method.
SSaturday 26 Octoberit will be dedicated to the most modern and innovative methods aimed at electrophysiology and cardiostimulation. The topic of ablation will be discussed with the techniques currently in use and above all electroporesis, a modern and minimally invasive methodology of which, as already mentioned, the Andria electrophysiology laboratory will be equipped shortly. This technology consists ofapplication of a very intense electrical impulsein the areas of the heart responsible for arrhythmic anomalies. Through the use of these impulses, which act only on targeted points compared to traditional methodologies, this method is less harmful to the structures surrounding the heart, such as nerves, esophagus and blood vessels and is, therefore, burdened by a lower risk of complications, thanks to tissue selectivity. Furthermore, this procedure has operation times reduced by 30% compared to traditional methods.
