Only 13% of textile waste is recycled in France, mainly into lower quality products such as tea towels. And only 1% is itself recycled in a loop, in textile form. Faced with this observation, the Carbios company, whose headquarters is located in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), has developed an automated textile preparation line with a view to producing raw materials for textiles. A first step before depolymerization.
«Our challenge is to recycle all polyester or PET waste such as food trays, bottles, plastic flasks but also all textiles, which represents two thirds of polyester waste and which is found in large quantities in our wardrobes. dressesdevelops Emmanuel Ladent, general director of Carbios. We need to prepare this waste to make it compatible with our enzymatic depolymerization process.».
