Caracas firefighters affirm that the fire at Cine Cittá occurred due to inadequate fuel storage

The Caracas Fire Department confirmed on Tuesday that the magnitude fire that occurred in Bello Monte a day earlier was due to inadequate storage of fuel in a premises of the Cine Cittá establishment located in that urbanization of Caracas.

In a video shared by Remigio Ceballos, Minister of Interior Relations, the Fire Department offered a balance of the fire and the actions of the officials.

“A fire of violent, rapid spread developed, due to non-compliance with the safety measure in the handling of fuel products, accumulation of fuel products derived from hydrocarbons.” This was indicated by a spokesman for that body.

And he stressed that during the incident the surrounding residences might be evacuated, with the exception of the Riverside building. In this, the emergency rescue of seven people who were trapped before the rapid advance of the fire had to be carried out.

He called on the community to take preventive measures in the handling of combustible substances, especially the owners of commercial establishments.

In the message that accompanied the video, Ceballos indicated that investigations are being carried out to establish responsibilities. And he also explained that in addition to the accumulation of fuel, the local fire extinguishing system was inoperative.
