Carabineros disassociates and confirms sanctions to officials detained after drug seizure in Arica | National

Through a video, the spokesperson for the Prefecture of Carabineros in Iquique reported on the dismissal of two officials detained after the seizure of a ton of drugs in Arica.

In the instance, a ton of drugs was seized by the PDI in Arica, which resulted in the arrest of 7 defendants, including 2 Carabineros officials.

The information was confirmed by Colonel Andrés Arenas, who also pointed out that the two now former officials will receive “the highest sanctions.”

As explained by regional prosecutor Mario Carrera, “this gang had, unfortunately, corrupted certain public officials who facilitated the work in order to avoid controls.”

After months of investigation, the operation called “Ruta Oasis”, of the Anti-Narcotics and Organized Crime Brigade (Brianco) of Arica managed to dismantle a criminal gang that maintained connections in Bolivia to intern drugs from the neighboring country.

According to Colonel Andrés Arenas, “Carabineros detained and released two officials who are involved in an investigation by the Public Ministry. The previous one, regarding an infraction of the drug law.”

“The now former officials are at the disposal of the Public Ministry and we made available all the necessary means for the success of the investigation,” he added.

“Our institution, in charge of security and fighting crime, will not accept these types of events. The greatest sanctions will be applied against those who violate the laws, ”said the police personnel.

Finally, Colonel Arenas indicated that the internal processes were reinforced, through the Internal Comptroller’s Office of Carabineros de Chile.

Due to these facts, the regional prosecutor of Arica and Parinacota, Mario Carrera, referred. The authority noted that “this investigation lasted several months because we had wiretaps that were putting the puzzle together.”

“Our pursuit policy is not to stick with a particular finding but to work further, determine how the organization works and completely disrupt it,” he said.

“The objective is to strike a blow that does not allow the organization to operate again, which was what was achieved with this procedure,” he assured.
