The BLS railway company announces that the rate of car shuttles crossing the Lötschberg summit tunnel will be greatly reduced, following Easter, from April 19, due to works.
Instead of six trains per hour running in each direction between Kandersteg and Goppenstein, there will be two during the week and three during the weekend, starting on Friday evening.
More than one train per hour this summer
The pace will be further reduced during the summer. For seven weeks, between June 7 and July 24, the trains will run at the hourly rate. However, the company indicates that during this period, to maintain transport capacity, several trains may run at close intervals, depending on demand.
A track without ballast
During this work, the Lötschberg summit tunnel (14.6 km) “will be entirely equipped with a track without ballast”, explains the BLS in a press release.
To complete this project, the company will launch a call for tenders this summer for the southern section (1.3 km). She indicates that she has not been able to reach an agreement with the company currently carrying out the work.
