As every year, the Brussels-Capital Region will become the largest area closed to cars in Europe on Sunday September 17, on the occasion of “Car-Free Sunday”, part of Mobility Week. It will then be prohibited to drive by car in Brussels from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and the Stib network will be accessible to all free of charge.
Bruxelles-Mobilité wishes to put the use of alternatives to the car and multimodality in the spotlight during the event, in particular through the promotion of its “Floya” application, launched at the beginning of September, which brings together all of the transport offer available in Brussels, whether public or private.
The closure of the capital to cars will apply to everyone, except public transport, taxis, coaches, emergency services, disabled people, diplomatic corps and public utility vehicles. The maximum speed will also be limited to 30 km/h throughout Brussels.

The Region will be closed to cars from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., but the placement of barriers and the closing of tunnels will be done gradually. “Traffic disruptions may therefore occur before and following these hours,” warns Bruxelles-Mobilité. In certain neighborhoods, street closures may also be prolonged due to various activities.
To facilitate access to Brussels during the event, SNCB will offer travel to the capital by train for 8 euros round trip, from any Belgian station. For those who still wish to come by car, Bruxelles-Mobilité recommends going to parking lot C at Heysel, which has 8,000 spaces and access to several nearby metro stations.
