A vehicle crashed into the Louis Melin sports hall in Flémalle, causing severe damage to the building. The driver sustained injuries as a result of the impact. According to the alderman of Sports, the car hit a roundabout on Quai du Halage and then crashed into the hall, crossing the entire building before coming to a stop in the middle of the room. Luckily, the incident did not harm anyone as the children had just entered the locker room. The Louis Melin room is a valuable municipal facility that hosts mini-football, basketball, and gymnastics clubs, which will be unable to use it for some time. The alderman of Sports will meet with the Local Sports Center to find a solution for the affected clubs.
A car drove into the Louis Melin sports hall in Flémalle on Thursday evening. Under the violence of the impact, the vehicle literally crossed the building to stop in the middle of the room. The driver was injured, said the alderman of Sports.
Thursday evening, while driving on the Quai du Halage in the direction of Flémalle, a car hit the roundabout located at the height of the rue du Passage d’eau. The vehicle then took off and then drove into the facade of the Louis Melin sports hall. Under the violence of the impact, the vehicle crossed the building to come to rest, on its side, in the middle of the room. The damage is very important.
“The driver of the vehicle was injured and transported by ambulance. I don’t know more about his state of health”said Thursday evening Fabian Pavone, alderman of Sports in Flémalle, who could not believe that this car was able to cross the infrastructure. “Luckily, when it happened, the kids had just entered the locker room. One of the coaches was nevertheless outside and thus saw the vehicle pass”.
The Louis Melin room is a municipal infrastructure. It is home to mini-football, basketball and gymnastics clubs which, from now on, will no longer be able to use it. “The hall is impracticable and will most certainly be for some time. Tomorrow, we will meet with the CSL (Local Sports Center which manages the municipal sports infrastructure, editor’s note) to find solutions for these clubs”.
