For an initially unknown reason, the man drove his car from the hospital parking lot over an embankment, the car drifted a few meters and got stuck on a stone.
An eyewitness immediately jumped into the river to rescue the driver from the car, the fire department reported. After initial treatment, the man was taken to hospital for further examination. The fire department recovered the car.
The rescue was challenging because a path for the crane had to be cut using a motor chainsaw. To make room for the swap-loader vehicle, some parked cars with shunting trucks were moved away. To prepare for the rescue, two firefighters had to jump into the still cool Erlauf, secured with lifelines. “This operation was certainly not an everyday occurrence for us,” said the local fire department.
