Explosive Morning in Acámbaro: A Car Bomb Shakes the Town

This Thursday started with a bang in Acámbaro—quite literally! At around 7:00 a.m., residents were greeted with a thunderous car bomb attack near the Public Security Secretariat. And just like that, the tranquility of morning coffee was shattered. Move over OJ, explosions are the new juicing method!

What Happened?

A car bomb exploded, causing severe damage to the Public Security building, several local homes, and a staggering seven private vehicles. It’s like the local car wash got an upgrade nobody asked for.

The explosion injured three police officers, including a brave female officer who required immediate hospital care. Thankfully, the other two officers had merely superficial injuries, which is, I suppose, a small victory in a rather disastrous situation.

Authorities immediately mobilized Municipal Police, the National Guard, and the Mexican Army to reinstate some form of order. Meanwhile, first responders were on the scene faster than you can say “wait, what just exploded?”

Investigation Underway

Now, here’s where it gets really interesting—nobody knows if this attack was actually targeting the Public Security Secretariat! What a shocking revelation! And to top it off, the alleged perpetrators are still at large. Perhaps they got stuck in traffic? Considering it’s Guanajuato, it’s a possibility!

The explosion not only left a crater-sized mess but also crumbled buildings and blew out windows like they were made of paper. In a possibly related incident around the same time in Jerécuaro, another vehicle exploded, suspected to be a police patrol. If I didn’t know any better, I’d assume the cars are staging a revolt against bad parking!

Government Response

President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the nation amidst this chaos, confirming that the Attorney General’s Office will take over the investigations. Because what’s a crisis without layers of bureaucracy?

Conclusion

As of now, Acámbaro’s Mayor, Claudia Silva Campos, remains silent. Perhaps she’s pondering whether a quiet day is overrated or simply trying to figure out how to get the town on a commercial for a new action movie. After all, explosions seem to up the ante!

In summary, this explosive event has left the town of Acámbaro—and possibly its cars—shaken, yet thankfully not stirred. With no fatalities reported, let’s hope for a swift resolution to the rampant chaos.

On the morning of this Thursday, an attack was recorded near the vicinity of the Public Security Secretariat of Acámbaro, in the state of Guanajuato, with the use of a car bomb.

Shortly before 7:00 a.m., municipal authorities reported an explosion in front of the building that houses Public Security, which is located on Río Colorado Avenue.

It was reported that in this incident a car bomb was detonated, causing material damage to the police department building. Four homes and seven private vehicles were preliminarily reported damaged.

According to the Ministry of Security, three police officers were also injured in these events. Although their identities were not released, it was indicated that a female officer had to be taken to a hospital to receive medical attention, as she had serious injuries.

The other two uniformed officers presented superficial injuries, so their transfer to a hospital was not necessary. Until 7:00 a.m. there were no records of affected civilians or fatalities.

The above generated a deployment by the Municipal Police, the National Guard and the Mexican Army to reinforce security in the area. Meanwhile, Civil Protection and Firefighters personnel moved to the scene of the attack to control the fire.

Because the authorities are processing the scene, it is unknown if it was an attack directed at the Acámbaro Public Security Secretariat. At the moment, the alleged perpetrators have not been identified, so there are no reports of people arrested either.

Until the publication of this note, the municipal president of Acámbaro, Claudia Silva Campos, has not commented on what happened.

In the images released, the damage caused by the explosion can be seen. One of the doors of the building that houses Public Security was collapsed. The same thing happened to the surrounding houses, whose windows and doors exploded. The debris was scattered on the public road.

At the same time as these events, in the municipality of Jerécuaro the explosion of another vehicle that is presumed to be a police patrol was reported. This incident occurred on Fray Ángel Juárez Street, in the downtown area. Unofficially, it was reported that seven vehicles and nine premises were affected.

President Claudia Sheinbaum was questioned about what happened in her morning conference this Thursday. The president pointed out that since it is an attack with explosives, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) will intervene in the pertinent investigations.

“The Security Cabinet was informed and the investigation process is underway. An investigation will be carried out immediately, of course by the Attorney General’s Office,” said Sheinbaum Pardo from the National Palace.
