Car accident kills more than 60 people in Cuanza-Sul – news

Sixty-six people died and 260 were injured, as a result of 169 road accidents registered, from January to the present date, in Cuanza Sul province, writes ANGOP, in its edition this Saturday.

The information was provided by the head of the Department of Traffic and Road Safety (DTSER), chief superintendent Moisés Paulo, quoted by Angop, referring that the road accidents also caused material damage estimated at 1.895 billion kwanzas.

He pointed out lack of prudence, excessive speed, pedestrians being run over, collisions between motorized vehicles and cycles and drunken driving as being at the root of the accidents, with the municipalities of Sumbe and Libolo being the most affected.

He informed that, during the period under review, DTSER seized 323 motorcycles, 55 light and heavy vehicles, as well as 427 driving licenses and 1,866 other documents for various violations of the road code.

On the occasion, the official was extremely concerned regarding the number of accidents registered in recent days in the region, stressing that the corporation will reinforce awareness campaigns, in order to combat road accidents.

”We will work without ceasing. We made a public promise that this year we would do everything to reduce road accidents in our province, which is why we have reinforced awareness campaigns in schools, churches, markets and on public roads in order to carry the message of responsibility that each one of us must have to prevent road accidents”, he added.

The province of Cuanza Sul has an estimated population of two million and 200 thousand inhabitants, spread over 12 municipalities and 36 communes
