On the night of Saturday September 16 to Sunday September 17, around 2 a.m., a car driven by a 24-year-old man from Enghien, accompanied by his 23-year-old partner, also a resident of Enghien, ended its journey by leaving the public road and enter the “SNCB area”, more precisely on the rails, tracks 1 and 2, of Waterloo station, the local police zone informs us.
Leaving a local drinking establishment, the young driver and his passenger took Rue de la Station, just in front of the station, and continued their journey, crossing a barrier before arriving at the platform and finishing their journey on the rails. The car passed where, not so long ago, the underpass of the old station stood. Several decades ago, one might also find a level crossing there.
Once on scene, the police performed an alcohol test. The young Enghiennois was measured at 0.7 milligrams per liter of exhaled alveolar air, more than three times the official legal rate (0.22 mg/L). The driver’s partner was also under the influence of alcohol. As soon as the police authorities arrived, the two young people became violent and created a scene. The Waterloo police immediately deprived the two Enghien residents of their liberty due to drunkenness on the public highway.
The vehicle was removed quickly following the incident. No impact on rail traffic has been noted.
