It’s the end of the holidays, soon. And in a month too, the end of summer. Nature tells us. Autumn is approaching. The storks that arrived here at the end of spring to nest and reproduce have already taken their way to Africa where they will spend the winter.
Several photographers met last night between Charleroi and Couvin, in Tarciennes. About sixty storks had stopped there to eat and take a little rest before their long journey. Their presence did not escape enthusiasts:“we come back from Vichy, with my husband, explains a lady who happened to be passing by. We return to Nivelles. I always look up and I always have my camera. I saw a stork on a lamppost and asked my husband to stop”. A timely stop. A neighbor confirms this: “I have lived here a stone’s throw away for 33 years. I have never observed such a gathering. What I like in animal photography is not to disturb the tranquility of the animals. And there, they have the look perfectly zen. We can get a little closer, they don’t seem disturbed”.
Olivier Bourgi is a professional photographer. As soon as he heard of such a gathering, he jumped into his car, armed with his telephoto lens: ” it was a friend who called me saying “Oli, there is an impressive gathering of storks here”. And it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s a magical moment. We might quietly observe them eating plants or worms. Now they are resting on the streetlights along the N5. There is a stunning moon in the background. it makes for great photos. Life is beautiful. Nature is beautiful”.
The stork migration is still in its infancy, you may see this impressive bird not far from your home for the next few days.
