‘Atilio’ is the cousin of Darío Antonio Úsuga David, known as ‘Otoniel’.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, confirmed this Tuesday on his X social network account the arrest of Jacobo Rodríguez Úsuga, known by the alias ‘Atilio’ and a senior member of the Clan del Golfo.

According to the Colombian president, the capture of Rodríguez Úsuga occurred “through intelligence operations of the National Police.”

He stated that the detainee directed the drug-paramilitary group’s cocaine shipments abroad.

“It is estimated that this man managed to export more than 15 tons of cocaine per month,” said Gustavo Petro, who did not provide more details regarding the place and date of Rodríguez Úsuga’s arrest.

According to local media, ‘Atilio’ is the cousin of Darío Antonio Úsuga David, known as ‘Otoniel’, former head of the Clan del Golfo. In addition, they specified that the police operation that led to the arrest of Rodríguez Úsuga took place on Sunday of last week.

‘Atilio’ appeared on the National Police’s list of the most wanted men as part of that criminal organization. Thus, at one point, 50 million Colombian pesos ($12,692) were offered for information that would lead to his capture.

In October 2021, Colombian security forces arrested ‘Otoniel’ in the Urabá subregion, located between the departments of Antioquia and Chocó. Extradited to the US, he was sentenced last August by the US Justice to 45 years in prison.
