The European Commission will propose five emergency measures next week to help households and businesses cope with the energy crisis, including a contribution from energy producers as well as a cap on Russian gas prices, its Commission confirmed on Wednesday. President, Ursula von der Leyen, revealing certain details.
“We will propose a solidarity contribution for fossil fuel companies” (…) et “a cap on the revenues of companies producing low-cost electricity“as is the case with renewable energies, explained the German in a video address.
“Low-carbon energy sources earn massive revenues that do not reflect their production costs. Now is the time for consumers to benefit from the lower costs of low-carbon energy sources, such as renewables. We will therefore propose to redirect these unexpected benefits to support vulnerable people and businesses.“, she explained.
