Canucks Get Injury Updates on Hughes and Pettersson

The Vancouver Canucks received some‌ encouraging news on the⁤ injury front, as both Quinn Hughes and ⁢Elias Pettersson returned to practice‍ on⁣ Sunday. This comes after the star duo ‌missed ⁤time due to injuries, last playing on December 23, 2024.

Hughes a Game-Time Decision Against Canadiens

While Pettersson didn’t participate ⁤in special teams practice, Hughes took his usual spot on the first power play ‍unit,⁣ suggesting a quicker ‍return.Head Coach Rick Tocchet ‍confirmed ⁣Hughes’s⁤ progress, stating on Monday that Hughes would be a⁣ game-time decision ⁢for their matchup against the Montreal Canadiens.

“Game-time on Quinn; I don’t think Petey’s going to play tonight,” tocchet said. “He’s still skating right now, I’ll talk ⁤to him again. But Hughes is a possibility.”

This news comes as a pleasant surprise,as initial ‌reports indicated Hughes could be ⁢out‌ longer ‍than pettersson.

Canucks‌ missed Hughes’ Presence

Without Hughes and Pettersson, the Canucks ⁢struggled, losing three of their⁤ last four games. Their lone⁢ win came‌ in a shootout victory. The absence of Hughes was notably felt,as the remaining defensemen struggled to effectively transition⁣ the puck⁤ up ice and generate offense.

Joshua to Miss Time

Unfortunately, the Canucks will be without Dakota Joshua ⁢on Monday. Tocchet confirmed that Joshua is out week-to-week,clarifying that its closer to 8-9 days rather ⁢than⁣ a full three weeks. ⁤⁢

Joshua‍ had briefly left Friday’s game against the Nashville ⁣Predators after ⁢a collision with Roman Josi, but returned for the‌ third period.

Facing a Hot Canadiens Team

Monday, ⁤the ⁢Canucks face a surging canadiens ‌team⁣ that has won seven ‌of their last nine⁤ games. Despite ⁣this recent success, the Canadiens still sit at .500 on ⁢the season with an 18-18-3⁣ record.Tocchet praised Canadiens Coach‍ Martin St. Louis⁢ for the team’s turnaround.

“We’re playing a hot ⁣team,” Tocchet said. “Marty, he’s got these guys playing really ‍well. We’ve⁤ just⁣ got to stick ⁢to ⁢our game⁤ a little⁣ bit longer. We had⁤ a couple of good games, I thought we played, but we’ve⁢ got to be on the right side of the one-goal ⁢games. That comes ⁤with big moments.”

Canucks Projected Lines

With Hughes’ status uncertain, the canucks’ defensive pairings remain fluid. The forward lines will see‍ Jonathan⁣ Lekkerimäki step in for the injured joshua.

Here are the projected lines, subject to changes after warmups:

Canucks Look to⁣ Extend Winning Streak against ⁣canadiens

The‍ Vancouver Canucks are riding high ⁣after⁢ securing consecutive ⁢victories, and they’ll aim to keep the momentum going when they face the Montreal Canadiens ⁢on⁢ tuesday.

Swedish forward Nils Höglander will be looking to build on his recent ⁣success, having tallied three points in his past four games.

The Canucks ⁣have ⁣opted for a strategic shakeup in ‍their forward lines, elevating prospect Vasily Podkolzin to the top six.

“We’re trying⁣ to find some balance and chemistry ‍with our lines,” ‍coach rick Tocchet explained. “podkolzin⁣ has earned this ⁢opportunity ⁤with his recent strong performances.”

Meanwhile, the Canadiens boast a young, skilled forward corps led by Cole Caufield, who has been on fire, scoring four goals in his last five outings.Caufield leads the team ⁢with 21 goals in ⁢39 games. Nick Suzuki, ‍with 38 points, paces⁣ the Canadiens in overall scoring.

Rookie ‍defenseman Lane Hutson has been a revelation on the blue line, racking up⁤ an notable 27 points.

Projected Lineup battles

Both teams are‍ dealing with potential lineup absences. Rookie Arturs Silovs ⁣is expected to back up Kevin Lankinen in ⁣net for the Canucks while Thatcher Demko recovers from‌ a back⁢ spasm.

Montreal’s Patrik⁤ Laine (illness) and David Savard (upper-body injury) are listed as questionable.Any updates to their status‍ will ‍likely be announced closer⁢ to game time.

While Sam ‍Montembeault is‌ favored to start in goal for the Canadiens, 23-year-old Jakub Dobes has made a⁣ strong ⁢case for more playing time. Dobes has⁣ been exceptional in his two starts this ⁣season, shutting‍ out the Florida Panthers on December 28 and‌ posting a .957 save percentage against the Colorado Avalanche on January 4.

“Dobes has shown he’s capable at this level,” coach Martin St. ⁢Louis acknowledged. “It keeps Montembeault⁣ honest and pushes him to perform at his best.”

The matchup promises to‌ be an exciting one, with ‍both teams eager to secure a ⁤victory and build momentum ⁢for the remainder ⁤of the season.

What are some key factors impacting the Canucks’ performance this season?

Interview⁤ with Rick Tocchet, Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

By Archyde sports Desk

Archyde: coach Tocchet, thank you for taking‌ the time to speak ⁢with us today. The Canucks have ‍had a rollercoaster season so⁢ far, with injuries ⁤to key players like Quinn hughes and Elias Pettersson. How are ⁣you feeling about the team’s current situation? ⁤ ⁤

Rick Tocchet: thanks ‍for having me. It’s definitely been a ‍challenging stretch, especially losing ‌guys like Hughes and Pettersson, who are such ⁢big ⁣parts ‍of our team. But I’m encouraged ⁤by ⁢the⁤ way the guys have stepped up. We’ve ‌had some tough⁤ losses, but we’re fighting through it. Hughes is back ⁢at‍ practice, and‌ that’s a huge ‍boost for us.‌

Archyde: Speaking of‍ Hughes,‌ he’s been a game-time decision for⁢ tonight’s matchup against the Canadiens. What’s the latest on his status, and how confident⁢ are you that he’ll be ready‍ to go? ⁤

Tocchet: ⁤Quinn’s progressing ‍well. He was out there on the first power-play unit during practice, which is a good⁤ sign. We’ll make the‌ final call after warmups, but he’s definitely a possibility. We’re being cautious, though—we⁣ don’t want to rush him ⁢back and risk further injury.

Archyde: and what about ⁣Elias Pettersson?⁣ He’s been skating but didn’t participate in⁤ special teams drills. Is he close to returning?‍ ‌

Tocchet: Petey’s still day-to-day. He’s skating and⁣ working hard, but he’s not quite ⁣ready for game action yet. We’ll keep evaluating⁣ him, but for tonight, he’s ⁤out. It’s tough because he’s such a dynamic ⁤player, but ⁢we want to make sure he’s 100% before he comes back.⁤

Archyde: The Canucks have struggled in the absence of Hughes and Pettersson, losing three of‌ their last four games. How much of an impact has their absence had on the ‌team’s performance?

tocchet: It’s been ‍significant. Quinn is⁢ our engine on the back ⁣end—he‍ drives our transition game and generates⁤ so ‍much‍ offense. Without him, our defensemen have had⁤ to step up, and it’s been an adjustment. Petey, obviously, is ‌a⁢ huge part of our offense. We’ve had to rely on other guys to fill those roles,⁤ and it’s been a learning ⁣experience for everyone.

Archyde: Dakota Joshua ‌is another player who’s been‌ sidelined. How big of a loss is he for the⁤ team, and what’s the timeline for his return?

Tocchet: ⁢ Dakota’s ⁣been a key contributor for us, especially with his ⁤physicality and energy. He’s out week-to-week, but it’s closer to 8-9 days rather than a full three‌ weeks. It’s a tough ⁢break, but we’ve ⁤got ‌guys like⁣ Jonathan ‍Lekkerimäki stepping in, and it’s an opportunity for them‍ to show what ⁢they can do.

Archyde: The Canadiens have ‍been on a hot streak lately, winning seven of their⁢ last nine‌ games. What’s ‌your approach ⁤to facing a team that’s⁣ playing with so‌ much confidence?

Tocchet: Marty [Martin St.Louis] has‍ done a great job with that group. They’re playing fast,‌ they’re skilled, and they’re competing ‍hard. For⁤ us, it’s about‍ sticking⁢ to our game plan‍ and staying disciplined. ⁤We’ve been in a lot of one-goal games lately, and we need to find a way to come out on the right side of those. It’s⁢ about executing⁤ in the big moments.

Archyde: You’ve made some adjustments‍ to the⁤ forward lines, including elevating Vasily Podkolzin to the top six. What’s ⁣behind that‌ decision?

Tocchet: ‌Podkolzin has ‍been ⁤playing really well lately. He’s earned this opportunity with his work ethic and his recent performances. We’re trying to ⁢find the right balance and chemistry with our lines, and he’s⁤ a guy ‌who can bring energy and‌ skill to that role.

Archyde: Nils ⁤Höglander ‌has been on a bit of a hot streak, with⁤ three points in his last four games. What⁢ have you seen from ‍him⁢ lately, and how important is it for him to keep that momentum going?

Tocchet: Nils has been great. He’s playing with confidence, ⁤and that’s huge for him. When he’s skating and using‍ his speed, he’s a really effective player. We need him to ⁣keep building⁢ on that and contributing offensively.

Archyde: Thanks, Coach. Best of luck tonight against the Canadiens.

Tocchet: Thank you. We’re looking forward to the challenge.⁣ ⁣
