Canton Schwyz: Accident in the Axenstrasse tunnel calls for seven injuries, including four children

On Thursday followingnoon, an accident occurred on Axenstrasse in the canton of Schwyz. According to a local news scout, a car traveling in the direction of Zurich entered the oncoming lane and crashed into an oncoming car. Several people may have been injured, and four ambulances were on site at times. Pictures from the News Scout also show how two Rega helicopters left the scene of the accident at around 6 p.m. The Schwyz canton police confirmed the accident and the use of the rescue service. Accordingly, the 40-year-old driver and her three children between the ages of three and eight were slightly to seriously injured. The suspected cause of the accident and his 13- and 49-year-old passengers also suffered injuries. All those involved were taken to the hospital by the rescue service and Rega.

Due to the clean-up work and further investigations, Axenstrasse was closed from 4.45 p.m. until just before 7 p.m., and traffic was diverted via Lucerne. The Swiss Touring Club recommended travelers traveling in the direction of Chiasso during the closure to switch to the A14 and A2 via the Gotthard.
