– Wage underbidding within ski lifts
Some ski lift companies practice wages lower than the standard employment contract.
Cases of wage underbidding have been observed within Valais ski lift companies. The state calls on employers and social partners to find a solution. A new salary scale might be presented to him during the month of June. Discussions are also underway to make it mandatory.
Dumping salarial
In total, 36% of the salaries recorded in the branch between 2018 and 2021 were lower than those provided for by the standard employment contract (CTT) in force, the State of Valais said on Wednesday in a press release. And out of 53 companies checked, 39 paid some of their employees below the minimums provided. These will be informed individually of their results and those for which an underbid is noted “will be invited to adapt their salaries to the standards of the branch”.
In a press release, Unia calls on the canton to no longer grant state aid to companies that do not comply with the standard contract enacted and to request a refund from those who have received aid resulting from the law on the encouragement of ski lifts ( LERM) but practiced wage dumping.
We speak of wage dumping when more than 10% of employees are underpaid. “Even if the CCT is not binding, these elements can constitute a situation of abusive and repeated underbidding”, notes the canton. “The discrepancies observed are not tolerable,” he continues, calling on companies to correct the situation.
Towards a new standard contract
In parallel, also on Wednesday, the negotiations started in 2021 between the Valais ski lifts (RMV) and the unions under the aegis of the State were successful, indicated the Christian Unions of Valais (SCIV) and the RMV in separate press releases. .
The agreement provides for a new standard contract which allows the introduction of a minimum monthly salary of 4,000 francs (over 13 months) and a valuation (progress level) of the years or seasons of work of 650 francs per year. This new CCT will be submitted to the Council of State during the month of June for approval, specify the RMV. For an implementation for the winter season, hopes Pierre Vejvara, responsible for the branch with the SCIV, who says he is “satisfied” with the salary increase obtained.
“It’s a good result”, abounds Blaise Carron, regional secretary of Unia, it is still necessary that this new CCT applies “to all employees”. And to remember that the negotiations also succeed the day when there is wage dumping.
In their respective positions, both the ski lifts, the unions and the State of Valais plan to make the application of minimum wages compulsory in the sector.
