Canton of Saint-Gall: A mother and her son die crushed by a tree during a walk
A falling trunk killed two people on Sunday, shortly before noon, near Bad Ragaz. A 42-year-old woman and her six-year-old child did not survive.
A hike turned tragic on Sunday, shortly before noon, on the gravel road linking Bad Ragaz to the Tamina Gorge, located between a stream and a rock face overlooked by a forest. A tree trunk came off the top of the wall to come crashing down on a woman and her son who were passing by. Unfortunately, the emergency services dispatched to the scene might only confirm their death, according to a press release from the cantonal police of Saint-Galloise.
After the incident, all hiking trails in the area were closed. The road from Bad Ragaz to the Altes Bad Pfäfers restaurant will certainly be sealed off until Monday evening. On Monday, the course of approximately four kilometers will be controlled by experts. This lane is checked three times a week by employees of the regional road inspectorate. The last check was on Friday followingnoon.
Each spring, the course is examined in more detail by forestry experts and specialists in difficult access works. Trees are felled if necessary.
