Every Friday, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., the Quilamapu Sports Center’s synthetic pitch is packed with children between the ages of 6 and 10, who cheer on the “Canteritas Sociales 2024” Youth Soccer Tournament.
Behind the perimeter fence, a hundred parents and relatives cheer on the nearly 300 promising players who are taking part in this tournament that encourages the practice of football at an early age.
Integration
Children from various football schools and workshops in the municipality of Chillán play here, and they appreciate the creation of this recreational opportunity.
“We played well, we scored a goal and I made a good save. The good thing is to play, have fun and it’s great that this tournament is taking place because we can meet more friends,” said Maximiliano Lavados, a player from the El Tile.
“We have a good time. I like playing with my friends and winning games. I have a good time here with my friends Borja and Luis,” says Stefano, a player from the Dormund Football Academy.
Formative values
The coach of the El Tejar Football School, Elías Pino, valued the fact that this type of tournament with a training seal is organized.
“Children bring their parents and families with them. Even more so now that they are on vacation. We appreciate the municipality of Chillán for organizing this type of championship, where the result is secondary, because the children come to enjoy themselves and their parents too,” he emphasized.
“We hope that the municipality and the City Council will continue to support these initiatives so that they can be organised and enjoyed by children for a longer period of time,” concluded Pino.
Luis Rojas, head of the Municipal Training Schools Program of the Sports and Recreation Department of the municipality of Chillán, which organizes the tournament, stressed that “the objective is to encourage the practice of football with a formative and integrative perspective, at an initiation stage, integrating the football schools that exist in Chillán with our workshops.”
Next Friday, weather permitting, the third date of the first version of the “Torneo Canteritas Sociales 2024” will be held, which has quietly become a space for value-based and recreational training, in which the children of Chillán are the protagonists, supported by parents who understood that sport is a tool for integration.
