The official press described the free food module that is currently being distributed in this Cuban province, which includes cans of sardines, pasta (spaghetti), rice and sugar, as a “gift from MINCIN.” Will it be extended to the rest of the country?
According to official sources, the Ministry of Domestic Trade (Mincin) decided to deliver a free food module to all families in Sancti Spíritus, due to the location of the “26 July” event. The delivery of the module was confirmed by Eliosbel Martínez Hernández, director of the Wholesale Food Company in that province in the center of the island.
The module includes two kilograms of rice, one of sugar, one of pasta (spaghetti) and two cans of sardines. These products will be distributed to each of the 190,816 households in the province. Since the end of last week, containers with the products were already arriving in Sancti Spíritus from Ciego de Ávila.
In total, 48 containers are expected, and distribution of the modules will begin once all the products have arrived.
According to the officials, “a quick and efficient transfer and distribution is expected. The forces are already working on the formation of the modules and preparing for their distribution to the population as soon as possible.”

People who have benefited from the free module that will be distributed as a “gift from MINCIN” in the wineries of Sancti Spiritus and that contains pasta, sardines, sugar and rice, gave their opinion on the matter to independent media.
“The rice is of Chinese origin, of very good quality, it grows quite a bit (…) The sardines, you know, are those little sardines that you have to add a thousand things to to remove the strong flavor that they have, they are from Venezuela, like spaghetti,” said one beneficiary to the media 14ymedio.
Other Cubans commented: “A donation from MINCIN, did they buy this food out of their own pockets?” “That is pure manipulation. Are they going to give me two pounds of rice and one of sugar? But if they haven’t given me the quota, how are they so cynical as to say that they are going to give me a module? Aren’t they ashamed?”
