Moved, the film crew was applauded for more than ten minutes by the public. With “Close”, the young Belgian prodigy signs a film regarding friendship and responsibility. The feature film dives into the story of Léo and Rémi, 13 years old, lifelong friends until an unthinkable event separates them.
The main roles are played by newcomers Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele and actresses Émilie Dequenne and Léa Drucker.
In 2018, Lukas Dhont stood out on the Croisette with his first film “Girl”, presented in the “Un Certain Regard” section, which earned him four awards. He had thus been awarded the Camera d’Or, a prize which rewards the best first film in all sections, the Interpretation Prize in the “Un Certain Regard” section, the independent “Queer Palm” prize for his treatment of altersexuals and the Fipresci prize from international film critics in the “Un Certain Regard” section.
“Close” is a production by Menuet, Diaphana Films, Topkapi Films and Versus Production in co-production with VTM and RTBF. The film was also produced with the support, in particular, of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) and the Cinema and Audiovisual Center (CCA) of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as well as with the help of the tax shelter of the Belgian federal government.
