Cannabis: scientific research at the heart of the second ANRAC board meeting

The Board of Directors of the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC) held its second meeting on Wednesday, December 14, in accordance with the provisions of Law 13.21 relating to the legal uses of cannabis.

This meeting focused on examining the means of strengthen scientific research with regard to the development of the cannabis sector for industrial purposes, the organization of producers and industrialists and the production of a national variety of this substance which will help to reduce the pressure on the water table.

This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the stages of development of the system relating to the regulation of cannabis, indicated the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Waters and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, in statement to the press at the end of this meeting.

The ANRC has taken important steps with regard to the importation of seeds compliant with the industrial use of this substance, said Mr. Sadiki. This meeting also focused on the foundations of the research program that will allow Morocco to have varieties improved and adaptable to production conditions at the national level.

The organization of producers and manufacturers as part of a federation interested in the regulation, marketing and promotion of the product, as well as the support of producers in the field of training and support, were on the menu of this meeting, he continued.

Scientific research at the service of cannabis development

The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, said that this meeting “was an opportunity to highlight the importance of scientific research in the development of cannabis at medical and industrial purposes, through the training of specialized engineers and an elite of doctors who will work with national university laboratories”.

This academic orientation is supposed to prepare national skills with international expertise, which will allow Morocco to move forward in carrying out this project, like other countries that have adhered to cannabis regulations, Mr. Miraoui told the press.

For his part, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, assured that efforts will be made in scientific research to produce a national variety that will help alleviate the pressure on the water table, with specificities that predispose her to consume less water than the other varieties.

The small farmer will benefit, next year, from special attention, through the aggregation of this category within the framework of cooperatives, and by helping him in the production operation, which will improve his living conditions. , chained Mr. Baraka

ANRAC ensures the implementation of the State strategy in the field of cultivation, production, manufacture, processing, marketing, export of cannabis and import of cannabis. its products for medical, pharmaceutical and industrial purposes.

The Agency is responsible for maintaining the state of cannabis stocks and providing the competent international body with the assessments and information requested in accordance with the Kingdom’s international commitments. It also monitors the procedures for granting authorizations to national and international operators in the medical and industrial cannabis industry, to seed companies, nurseries, transport companies, in addition to the creation of the first cooperatives for processing and industrialization of local products whose members are local farmers.

The Agency is also responsible for supporting research on the use of cannabis in the medical, cosmetic and industrial fields, in addition to simplifying administrative procedures in coordination with the administrative authorities concerned, as well as directing illegal activities towards legal, sustainable and income-generating.
