Candidates should discuss the process of democratic normalization

The rector of the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB), Father Arturo Peraza, urged the candidates for the presidential elections on July 28 to discuss a process of “democratic normalization.”

In an interview with Unión Radio, Peraza explained that both sectors must clarify how they will return to normal citizen and democratic normality.

In this regard, he indicated that the future conditions of Venezuelan society depend largely on the existence of social and political conditions for a reasonable reunion in society, and he insisted that this should not be lost in the campaign.

“We have to talk during the campaign regarding how the country is going to be made viable… There are opportunities for a transition process, but it must be understood that this is linked to an integration process,” he said.

He stressed that it would be necessary to see what the proposed model of society would be on each side and what the opportunities for integration would be following July 28.

Peraza stressed that they have not been asked to visit any presidential candidates, but he said that they would love to because the university would become an open and free space where people can speak.

In the case of the opposition, he indicated that there is a political narrative that leans towards civic ethics and is based on the efforts of citizens, based on their possibilities to achieve change. Meanwhile, the message of the ruling party is based on launching accusations regarding the blockade.
