Alfredo Ramos, former mayor of the Iribarren municipality of Lara state, reported that Yenny Barrios, an oncology patient detained in the post-election context, was urgently transferred to the Antonio María Pineda University Central Hospital in Barquisimeto due to her delicate state of health.

“She is a cancer patient who recently had surgery, her cancer is lymphatic and she has severe pain in her legs. He urgently needs a Doppler ultrasound to rule out thrombi. So far they have not transferred her to a private center to perform the echo. This is how the dictatorship acts, without mercy and with all cruelty against all political prisoners,” Ramos denounced on his X account on October 23.

Alarm due to health condition of political prisoners

On October 22, the non-governmental organization (NGO) Justice, Encounter and Forgiveness warned about the physical deterioration of those detained in the context of the post-election protests. Through a publication in X, the organization specified that many of the detainees have lost weight “in an alarming manner.”

The NGO explained that the relatives of the political prisoners imprisoned in the Tocuyito prison (Carabobo) expressed their concern due to the poor conditions in which their relatives are found, as well as the poor food they receive.

One of the mothers of one of the prisoners, who demonstrated on October 18 outside the Ministry of Penitentiary Affairs in Caracas, reported that her son suffers from diarrhea and has not received adequate medical care.

“My son tells me that they don’t even give him water (…) we want our children free, all their rights are being violated,” the woman told the media.
