According to the latest international cancer research report by the medical journal “The Lancet”, following collecting and referring to 350 kinds of disease and death statistics in 204 countries, from the data in 2019, it was found that there were regarding 10 million cases of 23 cases worldwide. Among the deaths from this type of cancer, 4.45 million were due to known risk factors, accounting for 44.4% of the overall data.

The study pointed out that smoking is the largest cause of cancer, accounting for 33.9% of the overall population; followed by drinking, accounting for regarding 7.4%. In addition, unhealthy diet, unsafe sex, and exposure to carcinogens in the work environment are significant cancer risk factors. As for obesity (high BMI), it was the largest preventable cancer risk factor with the largest increase from 2010 to 2019.

All men who died of cancer in 2019, and more than one-third of women who died from cancer, died from these preventable risk factors, the study said.

Study co-author Christopher Murray, director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine, said smoking has long been regarded as a major cause of cancer worldwide.
