Cancer diagnosis: Princess Kate’s video message verbatim

The wife of the heir to the British throne, Prince William, is receiving chemotherapy, she said in a video message released on Friday.

The message verbatim

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you personally for all the wonderful, supportive messages and for your understanding as I recover from surgery.

It’s been an incredibly tough few months for our entire family, but I had a fantastic team of doctors who took excellent care of me, for which I’m very grateful.

I had major abdominal surgery in London in January and at the time it was assumed that I did not have cancer.

The operation was successful. However, tests following the operation showed that cancer was present. My medical team therefore advised me to undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the initial phase of this treatment.

This was of course a huge shock and William and I did everything we might to process and deal with it privately for the sake of our young family.

As you can imagine, this took time. I needed time to recover from major surgery and begin treatment. Most importantly, we needed time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was appropriate for them and to reassure them that I would be fine.

Like I told them: I’m doing well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that help me heal – mentally, physically and spiritually.

Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and reassurance. This also extends to the love, support and kindness that so many of you have shown me. This means a lot to both of us.

We hope you understand that we as a family need some time, space and privacy now while I complete my treatment. I have always enjoyed my work and I look forward to getting back to it when possible, but now I need to focus on my full recovery.

At this time I also think of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. To everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
