Rail transport is in trouble again. A worker from an external contractor who was working on behalf of RFI was hit and killed in San Giorgio di Piano, on the Bologna – Venice railway line. Traffic was suspended and the cause of the accident is still to be ascertained. The competent authorities, to whom RFI is offering the widest collaboration, will be the ones to reconstruct what happened. “From an initial reconstruction, for reasons yet to be ascertained, at the time of the investment the technician would have moved outside the area affected by the works”, we read in a note from the Italian Railway Network, which then “expresses its condolences and closeness to family members”.
Transport Minister Matteo Salvini also expressed “deep condolences” for the incident. The deputy prime minister, reports the MIT, “follows the developments of what happened with extreme attention, starting from ascertaining the dynamics of the facts”. The State Railways has made it known that high-speed, intercity and regional trains may be subject to diversions, route limitations and cancellations. These inconveniences come after the company intervened on the Parco Prenestino – Rome Termini railway line, where damage to the line occurred, which paralyzed train circulation on Wednesday 2 October.
