Canberra Balloon Spectacular, previously called the Canberra Balloon Festival, is a highly anticipated annual event held every March on the lawns of the Old Parliament House. Held since 1987, the festival is a breathtaking 9-day display featuring around 50 hot air balloons, launching daily at dawn.
The festival is known for its unusual balloons of all shapes and colors. The most creative were a pair of dancing honey bees, a Scottish Bagpiper, a Yoda head and a giant T-Rex. The Canberra Balloon Spectacular brings together around 30,000 people every year with its balloon magic.
The giant balloon ascent, when dozens of colorful dots appear over the city skyline, can be viewed daily at 6:15 a.m., weather permitting. Next to downtown Canberra, the balloons can be seen from the National Arboretum. Visitors can book flights lasting up to an hour during the Canberra Baloon Spectacular. Guests will receive a commemorative flight certificate and receive a glass of champagne.
Canberra Balloon Spectacular attracts large crowds so get there early to avoid disappointment. A cooked breakfast and plenty of live music will entertain those watching the balloons from the ground.
