The group of companies made up of Rcm Costruzioni Srl, Fincosit Srl, Società Italiana Dragaggi Spa and Impresa Pellegrini Srl, which was awarded a contract worth around 290 million euros, will carry out the works, which will continue for 1,750 days. , out of an overall economic picture of almost 338 million.

The first phase

The first phase of work therefore begins for the construction of the Ro-Ro Terminal of the Canal Port, with the expenditure, which must be completed by 30 June 2026, of the 99.35 million euros covered by the Pnrrr. We begin on Wednesday 3 April with the setting up of the area dedicated to construction site logistics with the start of all environmental mitigation and compensation activities. They will be completed by the first half of 2025. Among the first interventions will be the pruning and transplanting of a large number of species present in the intervention area, tamarisks, wild olives and lentisks. At the same time, we will proceed with the land reclamation of the outport areas.

The most impressive port construction in Sardinia

«A few days ahead of the deadline set by the Pnrr we formally hand over the keys to the construction site for the construction of the most impressive port work carried out on the island so far – says Massimo Deiana, President of the AdSP del Mare di Sardegna -. This is a historic result which, thanks to the extraordinary work of the structure, was carried out in full compliance with the deadlines.” In the south-western sector of 6 berths in total, an 11-metre seabed maneuvering dock will be built, and it will be divided into 5 yards which will host approximately 2,500 stalls for the parking of semi-trailers, including 52 for the parking of dangerous goods. Furthermore there will be a dedicated passenger terminal, structured on two levels. On the ground floor, in a space of approximately 1,800 square metres, there is a public area with a waiting room, customs and security checks, services, and a space reserved for ticket offices, law enforcement, maritime health and first aid clinic. On the upper floor, in approximately 1,200 square metres, the AdSP offices and a catering business will be housed “which will be able to enjoy a panoramic terrace which will be accessible, even directly from the boarding lanes, by passengers with cars in tow”.

Customs control activities and traffic

Next to the maritime station, the project in competition includes two other buildings at the access to the customs gates, dedicated to the control activities of the relevant bodies. «The compendium will, therefore, be the new point of reference for the port cluster and will be well connected to the city through the local public transport system and the external road system, thanks to the intervention to complete the internal port roads, financed with 10 million euros of Pnrr-Zes funds, the work of which is already underway and will be completed by the first half of 2025 – concludes Deiana -. The works, which will continue for the next 5 years, will allow the creation of the master plan for the port of Cagliari with the transfer of commercial traffic to the Canal Port and the total conversion of the historic one for cruise ships and pleasure boating”.
