Canadiens: Kent Hughes prefers not to get carried away about Connor Bedard

The recent failures of the Canadiens have reminded us that the team will likely have the chance to draft a good player next June, but will they be able to get their hands on the one everyone is talking regarding?

« [Connor Bedard] a very special player and there will be a team lucky enough to draft him, acknowledged general manager Kent Hughes in an interview with RDS before the game once morest the Nashville Predators. But we will wait for the lottery instead of dreaming. »

The Habs are currently in 27th place overall and would have a 7.5 percent chance of picking 1st overall. The club that finishes 32nd will see its chances of winning the Bedard lottery rise to 18.5 percent. Note that the Canadiens also own the 1st round pick of the Florida Panthers, who are currently ranked 24th.

Hughes, whose team has lost its last five games before tonight’s game, also said he’s open to all possibilities by the trade deadline.

“There might be trades,” Hughes said. I’ve always thought that we have to be flexible in the way we manage the team. Always look for ways to improve it. »

Finally, Hughes supported head coach Martin St-Louis in his decision to leave some unproductive veterans behind.

“Hockey is a business and effort is everything,” Hughes said. A veteran must show 100 percent effort, regardless of the outcome of the games. »
