During the morning session, the 27-year-old skater pivoted a line made up of Jonathan Drouin and Josh Anderson.
“I’m excited. It’s been a while since I’ve been involved in a game and I haven’t felt healthy,” said Monahan, recovering from hip surgery in April.
Last week, Drouin said he was positive regarding the possible combination with Monahan, pointing out that their respective styles went well together. The center player acquired from the Flames abounded in the same direction, at the end of the morning training.
“He’s an excellent player. I’ve known him for a while. He is very skillful and intelligent. He handles the puck well and is able to spot his linemates well,” he said.
Matthews, Marner et cie
Against the Leafs, the Habs will play a fifth preseason game and try to win a first matchup.
The task will not be easy, since the Toronto team has chosen to bring its big guns. Austin Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander will be in uniform.
“It will be a great opportunity to evaluate our players, to see how our young people will behave and to see where we are at in this camp,” indicated Martin St-Louis, specifying that Jake Allen would keep the goal for all the encounter.
Like playing cards
Since the beginning of the preseason schedule, the Habs have alternately been defeated by the New Jersey Devils, Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators. Which is far from worrying St-Louis.
“Even though we suffered setbacks, I am very satisfied with the camp. We lose games because our numerical inferiority is not at the level it should be. But that’s normal. You learn to kill punishments in a new way. It’s like when you play cards. When you learn a new game, you lose a lot,” illustrated the Canadian pilot.
After the game, the Canadian will face the Sens three times in a row, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. St. Louis has confirmed that Nick Suzuki will enter the first of these three confrontations on Tuesday at the Bell Centre.
